Description
Another view of the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railway as it departs from Silverton, Colorado in mid August.
The Durango & Silverton Train has been one of the Southwest's most sought after tourist attractions for over 130 years since 1882! Today, it remains Durango's premier attraction as visitors come from around the world for the unique opportunity to enjoy one of Colorado's most scenic excursions. Experience the pristine backcountry of the San Juan Mountains as you travel from Durango, CO to historic Silverton, CO aboard one of the last surviving Narrow Gauge railroads. This journey is available over 300 days a year and departs from Durango, CO with round-trip full day excursions. The route varies depending on the time of year, offering both Summer excursions and Winter excursions. There are also a wide variety of classes of service and car types available for your trip.
The Summer Train ~
The summer schedule offers daily round trip service from Durango to Silverton with the option to ride back on the train that afternoon or visitors can upgrade to a bus return for a scenic drive over the San Juan Skyway aboard one of our comfortable motor-coaches. There are also multiple departure times daily depending on the date. We ask visitors to plan for a full day for your train ride - the standard round-trip excursion is 3 1/2 hours each way with a 2 hour layover in Silverton, giving guests time to grab lunch on their own and check out the historic downtown and shops of Silverton. Train Up / Bus Return trips take approximately 2 hours off of the return time. Bus Up / Train Back trips depart later in the morning and include an additional hour of layover in Silverton. For the most recently updated schedule, visit our Schedule & Fares page.
The Winter Train ~
In winter, the train runs our special Cascade Canyon Excursion, which takes visitors through a real winter wonderland to the beautiful Cascade short-stop. This runs round-trip on a varied schedule - departing at 10am from the Durango Depot and returning at approximately 3pm with a 1 hour layover included at the Cascade Canyon Wye.
