Ute Indian holds some amazing folklore about these peaks.
They were hunters and gatherers who lived nomadically throughout the geographic area we now know as the Four Corner states: Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona. These people are the Ute Mountain Tribe. As a matter of fact, the state of Utah gets its name from these people. Those mountains across the valley are the Sleeping Ute Mountain range. The Sleeping Ute Mountain once spoke to Chief Ouray, leader of the Ute Mountain Tribe.

Janice Rae Pariza was born in Youngstown, Ohio in 1955 and raised in Ohio, Florida, New York, Pennsylvania, Nova Scotia and Connecticut. She has been painting since the age of eight. A self taught painter, she supplemented her natural abilities by studying privately for 14 years. A realist in the medium oil, her subject matter has varied throughout the years.
